2022 Domaine Alexandra Couvreur Aligoté Historique 750ml
Two exceptional Aligotés are crafted in the famed cellars of French whisky producer Michel Couvreur in Bouze-lès-Beaune. Over forty years ago, Michel purchased a small vineyard, selling nearly all of his wines to Caves Augé in Paris. With the guidance of close friends Jules Chauvet and Philippe Pacalet, he carved an extensive underground cellar beneath his home in the village. Despite advice from many to replace his Aligoté vines with Chardonnay, Michel never wavered. Today, the wines bear the name of his daughter, Alexandra, who has long served as winemaker alongside her son, Albéric. The Domaine produces two cuvées:
Aligoté Historique – Sourced from the original 100-year-old vines, this highly limited wine yields just 450-750 bottles annually.
La Crétot à Droite – From 60-year-old vines, offering a distinct expression of the varietal.
Both wines are pressed, barrel-fermented, and aged for 18 months in old puncheons, resting among the Domaine’s whiskies. They are among the most coveted and thrilling Aligotés in France.
The vineyard has never seen a tractor since it was purchased. Everything has been done by hand. It is certified organic.
